Questa è la Prova di numeracy “Impasto per intonaco”. Nello stimolo, al rispondente viene spiegato che l’intonaco è un materiale da costruzione che aggiunge una finitura strutturata alle pareti in mattoni o cemento. Viene inoltre mostrata l'immagine di un sacco di impasto, che riporta sull'etichetta informazioni relative alla massa di un sacco (20 kg) e alla superficie media che un sacco di impasto può coprire (5 m2), se applicato con uno spessore uniforme.

Per questa Prova, i rispondenti devono determinare quanti chilogrammi di impasto sono necessari per coprire un muro che misura 5 x 4 metri. Questo problema può essere risolto utilizzando un ragionamento proporzionale basato sulla superficie del muro da rivestire e sulle informazioni sulla copertura riportate sull'etichetta. In altri termini, poiché il muro da rivestire misura 5 x 4 metri, cioè 20 m2, e sull'etichetta c'è scritto che con 20 kg di impasto si possono coprire 5 m2, quanti chilogrammi copriranno 20 m2? Poiché l'area del muro da rivestire è quattro volte maggiore dell'area che può coprire un sacco di impasto, anche la quantità di impasto necessaria deve essere quattro volte maggiore, quindi la risposta corretta da digitare nella sezione apposita è 80 (kg).

Esiste anche una versione sviluppata con unità di misura imperiale per i Paesi che utilizzano il sistema di misura imperiale come standard. Nella versione imperiale, il sacco pesa 20 libbre, copre una superficie media di 10 piedi2 e il muro misura 10 piedi per 10 piedi. Entrambe le risposte corrette sono riportate nella tabella sottostante.
