PRESS RELEASE
PRESENTATION OF THE FONDIMPRESA – INAPP REPORT
The Challenge of In-Company Training in the Era of the Twin Transitions
On 17 October, at the Inapp Auditorium, the FONDIMPRESA – INAPP Report ‘The Challenge of In-Company Training in the Era of the Twin Transitions’ was presented. The Report, which stems from a survey promoted by Inapp and Fondimpresa, analyses the results of continuing training interventions in Italy of more than 100 company cases and on the Survey of Workers‘ and Companies’ Opinions, which involved more than 10,000 workers in companies employing around 400,000 people. The analysis places particular emphasis on the efficacy of continuing education to enhance workers’ skills in order to make digital and environmental transitions in production and work organisations sustainable.
The results obtained during 2022, illustrated by Valentina Ferri (Inapp researcher), Maurizio Bernava and Nausica Iencenelli (Fondimpresa), show that 40.1% of employees work in companies that have invested in green transitions and have been involved in projects on Industry 4.0 enabling technologies. The ‘green’ courses focused primarily on improving products and processes in terms of environmental sustainability (13.8%) and introducing new products and processes in work organisations (6.8%). These training projects were particularly concentrated in northern Italy. The increase in programmes was notable in the post-COVID pandemic period, contributing to a significant improvement in productivity and business competitiveness and to the strengthening of workers’ skills.
The results of the survey were discussed by Fondimpresa President Aurelio Regina, Massimo Temussi, Director General of Active Employment Policies, and Simonetta Ponzi, Fondimpresa Board Member.
Aurelio Regina stated: ‘The institutional collaboration between Inapp and Fondimpresa is now in its fifth year. We have shown that by combining our experiences and expertise we can create something unique such as the report on the evaluation monitoring of the training activities carried out by companies. This edition analyses plans concerning the two transitions, the digital and technological one and the green, energy and environmental one. Given our numbers, this type of qualitative analysis of the activities carried out, even if naturally only on a sample basis, aligns well with European standards, and transparently links our activities and the results achieved to increasingly high benchmarks.
The technological and digital transition and the green transition are no longer optional, but an unavoidable necessity for companies and workers who wish to remain strong and prosperous in the contemporary economic landscape’.
In his concluding remarks, Inapp President Natale Forlani emphasised ‘the success of designing interventions that combine the introduction of new technologies in work organisations with targeted continuous training programmes for workers that encourage the full development of investment and productivity potential. These are examples that should be implemented with the support of the inter-professional funds, promoted by the social partners, even in sectors where small enterprises are widespread, and incorporated into active labour policy programmes for the job placement of young people leaving school and university.
The refinancing of the New Skills Fund can become an opportunity to spread these best practices and increase the number of enterprises and workers involved’.
