The Challenge for Education and Vocational Training

22.07.2024 – Education and vocational training are constantly evolving. Inapp, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Regions, is actively engaged in supporting training provision in many areas with significant quantitative and qualitative gaps, particularly in the South of Italy. The goal, through the use of the European Social Fund, is to address these gaps and offer a chance for change to the 2 million young people who are neither studying nor working (NEETs).

To date, the data indicate that the implemented measures are yielding positive results, as evidenced by the findings of the XXI Monitoring Report on the IeFP system and dual training paths within IeFP, curated by Inapp for the Ministry of Labour: in 2021-22, 50,410 students participated in dual IeFP courses, marking a 19.5% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, there has been a strong retention of participation in training courses, with a significant increase in enrolment at accredited Training Centres (+69%).

To understand the challenges facing education and vocational training in Italy, the role of the Regions, the professions most coveted by young people and sought after by companies, and the skills in demand by companies, as well as the statistics of a sector poised for growth alongside more traditional educational paths, we interviewed Emmanuele Crispolti, head of the Training Systems Structure, which oversees the issues of training for young people and adults, and the quality of training.
