The role of the Third sector in skills development. The right to lifelong learning

16.11.2023 – Within the framework of the European Year of Skills Forum Terzo Settore organises the convention “The role of the Third sector in skills development. The right to lifelong learning”, to be held in Rome on 22 and 23 November.

In the Forum’s view the European Year of Skills will provide our Country with the opportunity to lend new impetus to a national strategy for the development of skills.

Overcoming the Italian shortage in knowledge is essential in order to tackle the challenges the Country is facing: combating increasing inequalities, facing issues such as the green and digital transitions, active ageing, democratic participation.

We need to improve school learning in order to guarantee that everyone has the key competences to carry on with lifelong learning, raise the level of skills in adult workers, guarantee the right to lifelong learning and skills certification. This will be possible by investing more resources in the education and vocational training system and implementing reforms to make it more inclusive and apt to interact with the territorial contexts and the civil society.

Third sector organisations have been engaged along this path for quite some time with a comprehensive learning offer addressed to the weakest and most at-risk individuals, with continuous training of their managers, executives and volunteers, with the recognition of the strategic skills of those committed to solidarity and active citizenship actions, in order to enhance the national system of identification, assessment and certification of skills.

Inapp’s Director-General and European Year of Skills national Coordinator, Santo Darko Grillo, will attend the convention.
