10.05.2024 – On 9 May 2023, the European Commission launched the European Year of Skills, with the aim of fostering lifelong learning and developing workers’ skills with a particular focus on digital skills and green technologies.
Across the Union, events and awareness-raising campaigns were held to support mutual learning from different experiences, aimed at improving skills levels and upskilling professions.
The Member States appointed a national coordinator to liaise with all relevant stakeholders and to animate and promote the Initiative’s objectives on the national territory. Italy’s national coordinator, appointed by the Ministry of Labour, in agreement with the Ministry of Education, was Santo Darko Grillo, Director General of Inapp.
Until 8 May 2024, the closing day of the European Year of Skills, the EU promoted 190 initiatives focused on skills and hosted over 2,000 events and activities, mobilising millions of people and putting skills at its centre. In addition, messages related to the initiative had 90 million views on Youtube and Twitch, and 69 million views on social media.
Overall, awareness of skills development increased from 26% to 53%, according to initial results of a survey on the European Pillar of Social Rights conducted among 3500 participants in 12 Member States.
Inapp actively participated by organising and taking part in numerous events in Italy and Europe. A section of the website containing all the information on the initiative and the activities that took place has also been created and is available as an online archive.
