The VET system offers:
• Three-year programmes at the end of which students obtain the Operator’s Certificate (a professional qualification at level three of the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning);
• Fourth-year programmes, following the achievement of a professional qualification, to obtain a professional diploma of technician (fourth level of the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning).
It is also possible to return to the school system to obtain an upper secondary school diploma through an additional year, subject to the school’s verification of the student’s level of preparation.
The courses have a minimum annual duration of 990 hours, calculated based on 60-minute lessons, as in the academic-technical-professional school system. The training year and calendar coincide with the school calendar defined by the Region for the entire education and training system. Similarly to academic pathways, VET programmes ensure that all students receive a solid foundation in cultural education and the specific technical-professional skills required for each qualification and professional diploma.
These programmes prioritise learning in practical contexts, including laboratory activities and periods of work placement in companies.
Furthermore, the programmes are tailored to meet the specific skill needs of different regions. The professional profiles resulting from these programmes are designed to ensure technical-professional skills that are valid across the entire national territory, along with more specific skills depending on the Region. Therefore, in addition to the National Register, there are also Regional Registers that require the acquisition of additional skills depending on the area of origin.
Starting from the 3rd year, it is possible to apply the qualifications obtained in the job market through professional integration.
