On Thursday, 19 December, from 9:30 to 13:00, the seminar “New Frontiers in the Analysis of Labor Regulation in the Gig Economy. Research Approaches and Protection Models” will take place at the University of Sannio and online. The event is organised by Inapp in collaboration with the University of Sannio as part of a scientific collaboration agreement.
In recent years, advances in information technologies – such as the advent of big data, artificial intelligence applications, and robotics – have profoundly impacted the economy and the world of work. The rise of the gig economy paradigm has not only created opportunities for economic growth but also presented policymakers and regulators with challenges – such as information and power asymmetries between platforms and workers, or algorithmic discrimination – that, due to their inherent complexity, often elude traditional approaches to analysis and regulation.
In this context, it is crucial to develop scientific, cultural, and operational tools that not only enhance our understanding of the social, legal, and ethical implications of these ongoing processes but also ensure the adequate protection of rights in a “hybrid” reality where technology, economy, and society are inextricably intertwined. The seminar aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on these topics, stimulating discussion involving scholars from diverse backgrounds.
The event will open with institutional greetings from Natale Forlani (President of Inapp), Gaetano Natullo (Director of DEMM, University of Sannio), and Massimo Resce (Head of the Research Group on Labour Policies and Economic Development in Southern Regions, Inapp).
Nicola Lettieri (Inapp, head of the research activity) will introduce and moderate the seminar. Several researchers from the Institute will participate, including Silvia Donà, Marina De Angelis, Massimo De Minicis, Francesca della Ratta, Tiziana Canal, and Matteo Luppi. The event will conclude with remarks by Manuel Marocco, Head of the Inapp Labour Market Unit.
