
National Reference Points for quality in vocational education and training, also known as National Reference Points, are in place in many Member States of the European Union, of the European Economic Area and of the European Free Trade Association. Their purpose is to ensure the national implementation of European initiatives and to disseminate information and studies about quality assurance in Vocational Education and Training systems They are part of the European Network for Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training (EQAVET).
The overall objective of the EQAVET network is to develop and improve VET systems across Europe by promoting the implementation of European policies on quality assurance.
The Italian National Reference Point, based in INAPP since 2006, carries out the following activities: promotion, implementation and development of the European Quality Assurance Framework; research and studies related to quality assurance methodologies; adoption of relevant quality assurance tools such as self-assessment and peer review.
Among the tasks of the National Reference Point, we can highlight: to inform stakeholders about activities related to quality promotion, development and assessment; to support the implementation of the EQAVET Network programme; and to promote the development of Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs), which aim to align skills with labour market needs.
The National Reference Point is supported by a National Board, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, the Ministry of Education, the Regions and Autonomous Provinces, Invalsi, School Heads Association, social partners, training experts, and representatives of vocational education and training providers. The Board meets annually.
