The Digital Platform Survey (DPS) targets a sample of 40,000 businesses operating in specific economic sectors in Italy (including catering, tourism and transportation). It aims to study the impact of digital platforms for selling products and services on business performance and organisation. In this respect, the survey looks both at businesses using such platforms, and at those using traditional sales channels.
The purpose of the survey is to apply a counterfactual method to create the informational database needed for the definition of a viable pattern of assessment to evaluate the impact such platforms have on business’ key performance indicators and on work inputs and productivity.
The main features of the Digital Platform Survey are as follows: the data collection technique used is CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing); the sampling methodology involves a stratified sample with planned allocation in the strata; the reference population is from Istat’s ASIA archive.
The survey is included in the National Statistical Program and requires mandatory responses from participants. It is financed through the European Social Fund (ESF) and implemented by Inapp in its quality of Intermediate Body of the ESF Pon Spao, based on the 2018-2020 Work Plan and its subsequent 2021-2023 update.
